Orbital floor fractures.

چکیده
Orbital fractures are one of the most commonly seen facial fractures, caused by blunt trauma in road traffic accicents. The floor of the orbit gets affected more commonly than the other walls. Patients usually complain of enophthalmus or diplopia. In certain cases, medical management would suffice but in most situations, surgical management becomes mandatory to prevent loss of vision for the patient. Auto genous grafts and allografts can be used. The latter is preferred. Recently, resorbable plates and mesh are used and has proven to be successful.

Direct oblique sagittal CT of orbital wall fractures.
Direct oblique sagittal CT was used to evaluate trauma to 77 orbits. Sixty-seven orbital wall fractures with intact orbital rims (36 floor, 22 medial wall, nine roof) were identified in 47 orbits. Since persistent diplopia and/or enophthalmos may warrant surgical repair of orbital floor fractures, optimal imaging should include an evaluation of extraocular muscle status, the nature and amount o...
متن کاملSurgical approach to isolated bilateral orbital floor fractures
Isolated bilateral orbital floor fractures are uncommon and are rarely described in the scientific literature. They are usually seen in association with naso-ethmoidal fractures, zygomatic fractures, or fractures of the middle third. We report our experience in the management of a patient presenting bilateral isolated orbital floor fracture. The difficulties in management of these fractures are...
متن کاملOrbital roof blow-out fractures.
The term blow-out fracture was co ined by Smith and Regan [1] to describe an orbital floor fracture caused by a very sudden increase in intraorbital pressure without concomitant fracture of the orbital rim . Most blow-out fractures involve the orbital floor. Less often the medial orbital wall is fractured either solely or in conjunction with a fracture of the floor [2]. Upward displacement frac...
متن کاملOrbital floor fractures: a retrospective review of 45 cases at a tertiary health care center.
The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate treatment options for orbital floor fractures at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Southern California. A review of 45 cases of isolated orbital floor fractures treated at the University of California at Irvine between February 2004 and April 2007 was done. Patients were retrospectively analyzed for gender, age, mechanism of injury, associated...
متن کاملParanasal sinus endoscopy and orbital fracture repair.
Although excellent results may be achieved in the management of many orbital floor injuries with standard transconjunctival or transcutaneous approaches, visualization of the posterior edge of the orbital floor or medial wall defect may be challenging at times. We describe our experience using endoscopic examination of the orbital floor through maxillary sinus approaches during the repair of se...
متن کاملUse of copolymer polylactic and polyglycolic acid resorbable plates in repair of orbital floor fractures.
The fractures of the orbital floor are common after craniofacial trauma. Repair with resorbable plates is a viable reconstructive option; however, there are few reports in the literature. This study describes our experience using copolymer polylactic and polyglycolic acid (PLLA/PGA) orbital reconstruction plates (LactoSorb, Lorenz Surgical, Jacksonville, FL) in 29 cases of the orbital floor fra...
